Everyone has asked the question, “Who am I?” at some point in their lives. And even after we have stopped asking the question, we may still wrestle with insecurities, self doubt, or feelings of worthlessness. So there is good reason to understand who we are—if not to answer the question, then to answer our insecurities.  Understanding who we are in Christ and internalizing this new identity can be transformational—from self doubt to confidence through Christ, from feeling unwanted to knowing your loved, from feeling insignificant to realizing you are amazing. We often hear we are to be imitators of Christ. While this is true, it’s only one piece our multidimensional relationship with Him. In addition to imitation, the Christian experience is intended to be one of identification. We have been identified with Christ in his death, resurrection, and ascension. As we internalize the truth of our identification with Him, we operate from a greater awareness of His life in us.

Paul and Your Identity

At the center of everything Paul and taught and wrote is the message of the believers union with Christ. His familiar phrase, “in Christ,” refers to everything God intended from the beginning for His creature made in His image. We are no longer in Adam, we are in Christ. We are a new creation—a new form of humanity. Yet, many of us wrestle with our old selves and don’t realize in a practical and meaningful way what it means to be remade in Christ.
